TEACHING PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT
With a long-term aspiration to become an educator in higher education and an extensive professional career combining an interdisciplinary framework of marketing, public relations, and strategic media through digital channels, I strive to create a learning environment where students not only understand foundational concepts but are equipped with the knowledge to apply them in meaningful, real-world contexts. I aim to prepare students to become strategic, ethical, and adaptable professionals and to serve my students with a mentorship mindset, leading by example.
My approach emphasizes experiential learning, enabling students to be actively engaged in creating, analyzing, and refining their work. I incorporate case studies, group discussions, and project-based assignments that mirror real industry challenges, such as developing integrated marketing campaigns, crafting public relations strategies, or analyzing social media trends. These experiences allow students to sharpen their critical thinking skills, develop a strategic mindset, and gain practical skills that translate directly to the workplace.
Ethical communication is another cornerstone of my teaching philosophy. In fields such as public relations and marketing, communicators hold significant influence over public perception and discourse. I encourage students to consider the ethical implications of their work, including transparency, representation, and the potential for misinformation. By engaging in discussions and case analyses, students develop a sense of responsibility for the messages they create and distribute, preparing them to act with integrity in their professional roles.
I also prioritize adaptability and digital fluency. The communication landscape is constantly shifting, shaped by emerging technologies, social media platforms, and changing audience expectations. My teaching incorporates current trends and encourages students to stay informed about industry developments. I challenge students to think critically about evolving practices, such as influencer marketing and algorithm-driven content, and to consider how these changes impact both strategy and ethics. In doing so, I aim to cultivate lifelong learners who can evolve alongside the field.
Equally important is my commitment to creating a student-centered and inclusive learning environment. I recognize that students bring diverse perspectives, experiences, and communication styles into the classroom. I foster an atmosphere of respect and collaboration, where open dialogue and critical inquiry are encouraged. By using a variety of teaching methods—including discussion, group work, and applied projects—I strive to meet different learning needs and promote active engagement. My goal is to empower students to take ownership of their learning and develop confidence in their professional abilities.
Finally, teaching is an ongoing process of reflection and growth. Just as I encourage students to adapt and improve, I continuously assess and refine my own teaching practices while furthering my learning through scholarly coursework. I seek feedback, stay current with pedagogical research, and remain engaged with industry developments to ensure that my courses will remain relevant and impactful.
